Raja
Rammohun Roy Library Foundation has been created by Government
of India in 1972 for development
and expansion of Library Services in the country. Since 1989-90,
the State government is involed in the matching scheme of
the Foundation for Development of Library Services in the
State. This scheme covers such matters and works like construction
of Library Buildings, Storage and Display of Books, purchase
of books for the Libraries, Mobile library Services and organizing
of workshops, seminars on Library matters. Fund for implementing
such schemes are provided by the State Government and the
Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation on
50:50 basis. The Foundation has also non-matching schemes,
fund for which is provided by it.
Considering the fund requirement of the Library
Network in the State, this scheme had a modest beginning with
reference to the fund provided at the initial stages. But
however with the passage of years the State Government in
consultation with the Authority of the Foundation have increased
its contribution to the fund effectively to meet the fund
requirements of the sponsored public libraries. From the beginning
of the Tenth Five Year Plan the Foundation has increased its
contribution to 75 lakh and the
State Government is also contributing to the same extent.
